Performance-based Task Formats and Examples
Product Performance Extended Constructed Response
Products may take a wide range of forms, including:
- Artifacts (drawings, paintings, sculptures, costumes, masks)
- Projects (investigation and inquiry log)
- Musical scores
- Choreographic notation
The suitability of any of these forms as an on-demand activity depends on time and resources needed (including available space), and the opportunity to establish context by means of other items such as selected response and constructed response items that may precede or follow the creation of a given product.
Products need not be limited to those that can be recorded in a response booklet; however, in general they must be capable of being easily administered, recorded, and transmitted for purposes of more centralized, off-site scoring. However, in some instances, trained raters may also be on-site to make evaluative judgments. Respondents are typically provided with directions, stimuli, and resources, and must compose their response in a limited time under standardized conditions.
